Part 5! Scanner's broke, can't scan new CD covers. This time I'll just review a few jpop songs I've come to enjoy recently.
Amuro Namie: Say the word - This song is very infectious, very catchy. It's a milestone for Namie because she wrote it herself. Well it's the standard pop tune, fused with a lot of R&B. The lyrics are questionable, but still... It may not be new ground, but it's still a great song.
Koyanagi Yuki: remain ~kokoro no kagi~ - Finally, a song released this year by Koyanagi Yuki that's actually good. Her popularity wavered quite a bit after releasing crappy songs like "DEEP DEEP" and "beautiful world," but "remain" is a great song that is quite reminiscent of "Anata no Kisu wo Kazoemashou," her most popular song to date. It's slow, with an acoustic arrangement of strings and piano, the vocals are powerful, and it's suitable for winter.
Kuraki Mai: Can't Forget Your Love - The latest from Kuraki Mai is a sleepy, yet gentle ballad. It's not as pleasing or as climactic as "Reach for the Sky" but with a few listens, this song isn't so bad.
Miki Douzan: Lifetime Respect - This is the dopest song yo! J-reggae at its best. A laid back beat and a smooth reggae flow give this song its mellow flavor. Give it a few tries if you don't like it, the song really grows on you.
Mr. Children: youthful days - This is Mr. Children at their best. It's a steady rock tune, with an intro that reflects its name. Overall there's a sad feeling to the fast rock beat, something Mr. Children is quite good at achieving.
Utada Hikaru: traveling - Utada Hikaru's latest single doesn't break any new ground but with a phat beat and catchy chorus it's a definite hit. It's a powerful R&B tune infused with a little dance and synth effects.
